Issues in Politics That Matter to Gen Z Voters
Hi Gen Z!
Did you know that we were what stopped the Red Wave from happening in the 118th Congress? Many political analysts were expecting that the House and Senate would flip from Blue to Red. Granted, we are still waiting for some key races in the House, but this not nearly the Red Wave republicans were looking forward to.
Give yourself a pat on the back. You voted, and that's a huge deal.
There are some issues that our generation cares about more than others. Let's dive in!
1. Reproductive Rights:
Within just a year, pro-choice Gen Z rose from 55% to 67% who support the women's right to choose. This could be because as Gen Z is growing up, they feel the need to protect themselves and their right to healthcare.

2. Racial Justice:
Since the 2020 killing of George Floyd- Gen Z has been at the forefront of planning protests, advocating for equal rights and anti-racism training. According to Business Insider, 78% of Gen Z-ers have said that they have posted something on social media in regard to Black Lives Matter.

3. LGBTQ+ Rights:
Earlier in 2022, Florida passed a "Don't Say Gay" bill. With how open Gen Z is, this did not settle very well with us. Approximately 20% of Gen Z identifies as a member of the LGBTQ+ community. It is no surprise that this is high up on the list.

One issue that did not make the list was Gun Control. Many members of Gen Z remember Sandy Hook, Parkland and Uvalde as very defining moments of our lives. Many believe the time for thoughts and prayers are over and it is time for policy and change.
What issues brought you to the polls in 2022? Which issues do you think will bring you to the 2024 polls?
We the students are more powerful than people realize.
