What I Did to Get Involved:

Image
Hi MA! I decided to give you a little bit of insight into what I did to get involved in politics! You are never too young to be involved in politics! The earliest memory I have of politics is with my dad. He's a union guy and has been since I was a child. We would do stand outs on Election Day. He asked me about wanting Hillary Clinton to be the first female President. I said I didn't want her to win, and I wanted to be the first Female President.  I joined my school's Model Congress team during my freshman year of high school, to try to get some more exposure to politics. I competed with the program for my entire years of high school. My senior year, I won a full tuition scholarship to AIC to further my education. As a freshman when COVID hit, I was very unsure what I was going to do. I applied for an internship with the Committee to Re-elect Congressman Richard Neal. I worked with him all summer making phone calls and knocking on doors ensuring a win for the Congressman.

Looking to 2024

Hi MA! Donald Trump has announced his 2024 Presidential bid. What does this mean for Gen Z? Do we have any ideas on who else is going to run for President? I personally think it might be too early to say who is going to run, and I totally think Trump announced his bid for President after the midterms to try to outshine the 2022 Midterm Elections. However, this does mean a lot for Generation Z. Prime example 1: if you think Gen Z had high numbers in 2022, just wait until you see what the voter turnout in 2024. Especially if the Republican candidate is Donald Trump. However, the problem comes from that we do not know who will run from the Democratic Party. It is uncertain who that might be. Example 2: Gen Z will likely have high employment with these campaigns or different lobbying groups. It will be interesting to see what happens here. Have a great day MA!

Issues in Politics That Matter to Gen Z Voters

Hi Gen Z! Did you know that we were what stopped the Red Wave from happening in the 118th Congress? Many political analysts were expecting that the House and Senate would flip from Blue to Red. Granted, we are still waiting for some key races in the House, but this not nearly the Red Wave republicans were looking forward to.  Give yourself a pat on the back. You voted, and that's a huge deal. There are some issues that our generation cares about more than others. Let's dive in! 1. Reproductive Rights: Within just a year, pro-choice Gen Z rose from 55% to 67% who support the women's right to choose. This could be because as Gen Z is growing up, they feel the need to protect themselves and their right to healthcare. Do you want to learn more about Reproductive Rights? Check out this YouTube video!  Explaining The Laws Around Women's Reproductive Health - YouTube 2. Racial Justice: Since the 2020 killing of George Floyd- Gen Z has been at the forefront of planning protest

Election Day as an Intern

Me at the Democratic Election Party, Nov. 8th, 2022, Boston Ma (Sarah Ardolino) Hi Mass! Congratulations! We elected our first openly LGTBQ+ woman to become the next Governor of our great state! As many of you know, I was lucky enough to serve as an intern on this absolutely historic campaign, and when I was invited to Boston to celebrate this historic down-ballot race, I could not say no to going. The day started off with a 5:30 alarm. I was up and at it at about 6:00 am, going door to door and doing what we call "lit dropping", essentially, we have a brochure type of thing that we just place at people's doors reminding them to vote. I had finished my first round of lit dropping at about 7:00- so I headed to my local polling location to hold out a sign. At 9:30, I was at the Coordinated Campaign office, and ready to go with my boss to do some more lit dropping. What I didn't know is that we were going to try to hit 2,592 doors all in one day. Highly unlikely, but I

What It's Like on the Campaign Trail

Hey Mass! This past semester I have worked on the Maura Healey Campaign for Governor! With the election this past week 11/8, I figured now would be a good time to chat about the timeline, my roles, and the ending of my time on this campaign. I was hired in early September of 2022, and my day-to-day roles included volunteer recruitment, and canvassing- along with some other tasks that weren't day-to-day. We'll get into those in a little bit! September:  On my first day on the job, I was asked to go to Union Station in Springfield, MA. We were just three days after the primary election and Maura Healey's and Kim Driscoll's first trip to the area since the win. It was a really fun day- I got to help one of governor-elect Healey's media personnel to set up the press conference, along with mingling with other officials who serve Western MA. Kim Driscoll- Lt. Governor-Elect and I were able to have a conversation. Kim Driscoll, Union Station, September 2022 (Rose McCaffre
